Life as a teacher
68“It’s easy enough to be pleasant when life flows like a song but the man worthwhile is the one who can smile when everything goes dead wrong”.
I’ve read this quote somewhere, who wrote it, I couldn’t for the life of me remember. But the words? I couldn’t forget.
In our journey through life, we stumble upon its many faces. At one time, we are gloriously happy, with not a care for the world. We love, we are loved back. We have everything we need, we have everything we want. Perfect.
But just like in every fairytale, an evil witch, in the face of a problem, is there lurking somewhere ready to destroy our perfect world. From out of nowhere, it strikes, with us caught unaware. This is where the sad part begins.
How do we deal?
Often, we say that life is cruel, that it is unfair. We even blame ourselves and others for our own misfortune. Because we are blinded by our grief and our bitterness, we fail to see what should have been clear all along. What is it? That we are not the only breathing, living person going through the same ordeal. Some or more than many are even suffering far worse than we are. What we are dealing is a mere speck while theirs are the real thing. We may not suffer the same fate, one thing is sure though, day to day, every living creature on the face of the earth experience struggles and yes, triumphs.
It has been said that life is the most patient teacher. You will be presented with the same experience over and over until it's top much to stand. Is it because life is cruel? That it is unfair? No. Rather, it is because there is a lesson to be learned. So that the next time we come face to face with the same monster of a problem we already know how best to solve it. Does that mean that we will be happy then? Maybe, may be not. After all there is no guarantee that we will not be on a crossroad once again. The next time, it may be a different crossroad. But each time we encounter a challenge, we are given the free reign on how to react. We should never avoid a problem for it has a way of coming back to haunt us when we don't deal with them. Instead, we must face them head-on. Yes, we will stumble along the way but we will learn from it and become a wiser and better person. And that is what matters.
Life is a lot of work, a lot of hard work. It will never come easy so that when we overcome every obstacle, the reward is sweeter and we will value it and never take life for granted.

I absolutely love this. I've always believed the lesson is in the endurance; endurance is where the true test of character comes in. Anyone can love the good, rejoice in a moment, or keep a measure of brief fidelity...but can you endure? And if you are able to endure the bad, who are you during and after? I really love this.
Adversity is a wonderful teacher..if we look back at world war 2, there were more inventions in such a short space of time.
Personaly I have grown the when I have chossen to face the trials that came my way, to avoid them is to stop living and growing..
Love your Hub!!

Many smiles have came because of your answer. All things are not as bad as it seems, and anything broken is to be straiten out.Take it as it come, and call it like you see it.
Theseus , I LOVE that saying ! Especially today we need more people to just smile. I happen to always smile at people often not returned but once in a while someone smiles back and what do we get for it. A touching of souls. Great and awesome,
live is good isint it i love mens
I am such a fool. I read this hub long ago, and thought it was excellent, and then we "lost touch" until you read my story, 'The Deserted beach' very recently, and you commented on it.
I am glad that you tweaked on my lead, because I like reading this hub every bit as much today as I did ages ago.
Thank you.

This is so, so true. And what you said about others suffering more than we... that is also so true.
Thanks for reminding us that "no man is an island".
